Full Description

The latest way to get around New York City is on pedal assisted bicycles and this tour explores Central Park, the Upper Westside and Harlem in just a few hours. Walking downtown one thinks Manhattan is flat, but that is not the case. The name Manhattan comes from a Native American term “Manahatta” which roughly means island with hills. An electric pedal assisted bike on this tour will get you up the many hills of Central Park and Morningside Heights with just a fraction of the effort.

On this tour we start at southern end of Central Park and visit a few of the highlights like the Bethesda Terrace and Strawberry fields. Exit the park and head up the Upper Westside checking the local architecture and a quick visit to a famous local market. We head up along the Hudson River esplanade to Grant’s tomb (Who’s buried in Brant’s tomb? Take this tour and find out) and the two giant churches Riverside and St. John Cathedral with a peek of Columbia University along the way.

A ride through the Morningside Park to Harlem where we tool around visiting some of the more famous Harlem attractions and recount the very interesting history of the Harlem Renaissance. Sites include the famous Apollo theater, Strivers Row, a peek at Sylvia's famous soul food and a visit to the Schomburg Library and Center for Research in Black Culture where we almost always find a interesting exhibitions. Back to Central Park where we will go over the Great Hill and traverse the length of the park to our starting point.
